Practise Ride

Practise ride complete. From Finsbury Park to the pub and back. Easy.... Nah, I'm kidding, we went to Brighton and the next day got up and came back again! Roughly 70 miles each way. Barely a scratch on the true mileage we need to cover.

Met at Finsbury and had all too a leisurely time trundling through to Clapham stopping for a posh sausage roll and some Tartlet I had no idea how to pronounce. Then finally got some rhythm once we got out of London... and got competitive with another pair of cyclists we met along the way! Then just as we thought it was in the bag we came across The Beacon... the one they all talk of. I really feel that some smoke and sinister over music is required at this point.... That MONSTER of a hill. Well, now I've done it I can say "The Beacon? Ahhhhh it's eeeeeasy!" But we all know its not. Luckily for us everyone else was also suffering from slight cardiac arrests on the way up and THEY were all on state of the art carbon bikes and no panniers full of gear.

On the way back Gareth had a small drama when he decided the chain would be of better use wedged into the smallest gap on his entire bike. That took us a good half hour of looking at the bike and panicking, but we eventually got our act together.

All in all. Great two days. No major dramas and Gareth caught a hell of a sun tan! (I have a small suspicion he's half welsch, half indian!)

Lovely jubbly, fish and chips then back for Tea and medals.
